Yosemite National Park continued

Cathedral Beach - the Merced River against the massive cliffs provides bathing opportunities.

More magnificent cliffs.

Lodgings in the park are hard to find and at a premium.  This very very basic accommodation at Houskeeping camping grounds cost us $US104.  Andrew is sitting at the al fresco dining table.

He is looking into the bedroom.

And a view inside the bedroom.  The whole structure is of a canvas awning over a recessed bed area with outside table and chairs with a canvas awning.  All food must be locked into iron bear resistant cupboards.  Black bears are common though we did not see a single one - I was glad and Andrew was sad.

On our way through the Tioga Pass Road which traverses the park we stopped for a hike to May Lake a lovely glacial lake.

This photo shows the snow above the lake.  We saw no swimmers although I did bathe my sore hiking feet.

More views.  How can one resist taking shot after shot of such magnificent scenery?

See how barren the rock formations are?  Australian slopes, even when barren have some sparse gorse like vegetation covering the earth.  But here this is bare rock with trees the only vegetation.
