We are spending a few days around Lake Tahoe, the 'lake in the sky" with its elevation of 6,229 ft, surrounded by snowcapped mountains even in summer. The mountains rise more than 4,000 ft above the resort filled shoreline. In winter, snow covers the entire landscape and skiers and snowboarding enthusiasts flock to the area. It is pretty nice in the summertime too with boating, swimming, numerous hiking opportunities and wonderful views, often of shade sheltered snow looking down on lakes and water falls.
One of the many beaches.
Emerald Bay, one of the loveliest bays around South Lake Tahoe where we are staying.
Lake Eagle where we took a hike. Australians bushwalk and Americans hike.
A view over Lake Tahoe and also Cascade Lake. The area is full of lakes of all sizes and the scenery is spectacular.
Another view of Eagle Lake from higher up on the walk.
