A nice place in the woods where we found a camping site. In Australia they call it "free camping" and in the US it is "dry camping".
A few deer to gaze at.
This is a north Kaibab white tailed squirrel only found at the Grand Canyon Northern Rim. We were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of one and to take a photo.
These are people taking a mule ride down the canyon. We booked to go on a ride at $70 a person but after a sleepless night, when I thought about being even higher than my own stance on the top of the canyon going downwards, we cancelled the mule ride. When I looked at the people from the distance, riding along the narrow paths, not only did I congratulate myself on the decision to cancel but I could not get over the folly of having thought about doing it in the first place! Am I crazy, with my fear of heights? Was the ride on the camel in Morocco, going downhil,l not a chastening enough experience?
Andrew actually did the walk down Bright Angel Canyon at the north rim of the Grand Canyon where the mules rode, hence this photograph. I just stood on the rim of the canyon enjoying the vista. I was afraid to venture too near the edge as it was.
This is Lees Ferry, the part of the Colorado River where the boat rides start from, going along the river into the Grand Canyon. These people are packing up for a fortnight of canyon boat riding. Later on, we saw them along the river from the rim of the Grand Canyon on the south rim.
